DMI was designed specifically for children with a gross motor delay. In DMI, we use the child’s automatic responses to movement in order to build on the skills they already have, and make progress towards their next developmental milestone!
Data shows that DMI is successful because it builds connections between the brain and the body. The foundational principle that explains how DMI works is called “neuroplasticity”- it pretty much means that your brain is constantly learning, changing, and growing. Therapy like DMI is designed to make the most of neuroplasticity, in order to see lasting progress.
There is a lot of science behind everything you see (and don’t see) in DMI. While you may see Kendra lifting a child in the air, what you don’t see is that she is intentionally applying certain pressure to activate the right muscle groups, and using gravity to her advantage in order to help the child be successful.
Remember- Kendra is highly trained (the second highest achievable level of DMI certification.)
These therapeutic maneuvers are complex, and require highly specific training.
(Don’t try this at home!)
Individualized. Affordable. Accessible.
All therapy is provided in an intensive DMI therapy session; you can choose from a 1 week session, or a 2 week session.
We provide a comprehensive evaluation on day one! This thorough process allows us to learn all about your child’s strengths and needs. Then, we can create an individualized treatment plan to help your child reach their goals!
We make therapy fun, fun, FUN! Playing with your child’s favorite things (music, toys, games) is a focus. This helps encourage your child, and contributes to trust building.
Here’s what you can expect from a week of intensive therapy:
